Clinical catalogs

The shared vocabulary for laboratory tests, imaging protocols, procedures, diagnoses and units. See which version is live and find any term in it.

01

What you can do here

Published centrally, read here

This vocabulary is shared by every clinic on the platform, so it is published centrally rather than edited in your workspace. A vocabulary each clinic could edit would stop being shared, and the codes would stop meaning the same thing between you and anyone you send results to.

A version is published whole

Terms are never edited in place. A new version is prepared in full, checked, and then swapped in as one act. Until that moment you keep seeing the version you already had.

Old versions are kept

When a version is replaced the old one is marked replaced and kept. A result reported last year against a test has to keep meaning what it meant then, even after the code is retired.

The same search the clinical screens use

The search box here is the one behind the ordering and laboratory screens, so if you can find a term here they can too.

What the catalog does not do

It says what a term is and what code it carries. It does not translate between coding systems, check a code against an external register, or decide whether a term is the clinically right one to use.

Follow these steps

Check which version is live

  1. Open Clinical catalogs.
  2. The banner shows the live version, how many terms it holds and when it was published.

Find a term

  1. Type at least two characters into Find a term.
  2. Search by name, by code, or by another name the term goes by.
  3. Each result says what matched, so you can tell a code hit from a name hit.

Browse a vocabulary

  1. Choose the vocabulary: laboratory tests, imaging protocols, procedures, diagnoses or units.
  2. Each row shows the term, its code and system, other names for it, and its unit or modality where it has one.

Helpful habits

  • Check the live version before raising a missing term. It may be in a version that has not been published to you yet.
  • Quote the code and the system when you report a problem with a term. Names repeat across systems; a code and system together identify one thing.
  • If a term is wrong, raise it rather than working around it locally. A local workaround is exactly the fork this arrangement exists to prevent.

Tips

  • Anyone with a clinical read can see this screen. Nobody can edit it from here, by design.
  • An empty search result and no catalog at all are different answers. If nothing has been published yet the screen says so.
  • Terms carry a unit or a modality where one applies, which is what the laboratory and imaging screens use to fill those fields for you.
